Themes – Week 1
On Tuesday, I gave K and E their pirate gear. I had bought little pirate party favor kits at a party store, that included an eye patch, a whistle, gold coins, pirate stickers, and a mini telescope. We played some games from a Mailbox Magazine (June/July ‘09), and then we read some pirate stories. We had a play date that day at a friends house, who lives about 30 minutes away so on the way we listened to our Veggie Tales Pirate cd. E loved this! He was laughing whenever Bob the Tomato was talking, and was dancing in his seat to the music. After nap time, they watched Little Einsteins Pirate Treasure, and played Pirates with their dad. Definitely the highlight!
On Thursday, the kids colored a picture from www.familyfun.go.com while I read them a few more pirate stories. Later in the day we watched Peter Pan while they ate some pirates bounty – eye patches (mini oreos), wooden legs (pretzel sticks), and gold coins (Ritz crackers). I got this idea from the Mailbox magazine that I mentioned earlier. Our first theme went really well, and I think this will be good practice for me to figure out how to teach two different age levels at the same time.
