Garden Challenge...April

In April our garden made so much progress!  Everything is growing well, and getting bigger.  I love how green our backyard is right now.  Green is something I miss a lot living here, and I hope to have even more trees and plants eventually.  The only problem I have had so far is that there is something eating my spinach.  I cannot figure it out.  I have never actually seen any bugs, but they are definitely there.  I bought some insecticidal soap, and that does seem to help.  I don't want to use anything harsher than that, so I may need to plant something next to the spinach that will deter the little pests.

Gardening has been a fun experience for my kids too.  They both go out with me every morning to check on the plants and water everything.  They take turns with the watering can, and my daughter is impatiently waiting for the tomatoes to start turning red.  She checks everyday!

  1. How beautiful! I've been wanting to start gardening for the last couple of years but living in the Arizonan desert I just am not motivated to fight against the dryness! haha

My girls just learned about garden planning in our science curriculum and would love to see pictures like this of another homeschooling family's progress :)

  2. Forgot to ask, did your water bill go crazy high when you started to garden? Does the food you grow offset the increase of water costs? My SIL (she's lives in Tucson, AZ) started to garden and it's really successful so seeing yours, too is really motivating me!
