Last week felt hectic to me so I am very glad we finished most of the school work I had planned. We didn't get to geography, and I had hoped the weather would cooperate so we could go to the zoo or something. The weather did the opposite of cooperate, and it feels like July outside. Hopefully soon we will be able to go on some fun outdoor field trips and get out of the house a little more often.
Language Arts
K moved onto the u section in Explode the Code 1, and she practiced Nn in Zaner-Bloser Handwriting K. We started All About Spelling this week! We worked on step 1 all week. She had mastered more than half of the letter sounds, so we spent the week learning the sounds she didn't know. We will probably continue to do that next week as well. I think this is really going to work well for us, although we are only on the first lesson so it may be too soon to decide that. K read BOB books to practice reading, and we did our Sonlight read alouds.
Math
K started the next unit in Singapore Earlybird, which is review of addition and subtraction. This is one of the pages she did this week.
Science
This week we read about how the earth provides all that we need to survive, as well as how to conserve resources, and global warming in the Usborne Children's Encyclopedia. In the teachers notes that Sonlight provides, there are suggestions on how to talk about this from a conservative perspective which I appreciated. The last few weeks have not been too interesting to K, so I am hoping that the next subject will be animals or plants or something. I like the format of Sonlight Science K, but so far K has not found it to be all that interesting. I just looked ahead and it looks like the next week is the same sort of thing so we may skip it.
Extras
K made a leaf project from Abeka Art Projects 1. She made crayon rubbings of leaves with fall colors and then glued a fall pattern around the picture. These projects are great for Fridays, since K can mostly do them on her own. She also did three pages in Developing the Early Learner 2.
