Weeks 4 & 5

Week 4...our first sick week.  K had an ear infection, so we had to tweak some things.  I have now learned not to plan too far in advance, so that I don't end up erasing so much in my planner.   We did manage to fit some school in here and there though.

Math - K started Unit 13 in Singapore Earlybird K.  Unit 13 is the introduction to number bonds, and so far she is doing great!  I think the connecting cubes are really helping her to understand the concept.

Language Arts - K did a couple pages in Explode the Code 1, and that is all we did this week.  On Monday we did the next lesson in the Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading, and it went terribly.  I decided to take a break, and just read BOB books and our Hooked on Phonics readers for a few weeks.  We didn't actually do that last week, but we will this week.   For handwriting, K did the uppercase and lowercase B pages in Zaner-Bloser Handwriting K.

Science - We only did Day 1 of Week 4 in Sonlight Science K, so we will be finishing the rest this week.  Day 1 covered fossils;  how they are made, preserved, and how they are found.

Geography -  Last week we started learning about Nigeria.  K colored a map of Nigeria, and we looked up the country in our atlas.   I am not sure if we will finish or just move on to our next country, South Africa.

Week 5 consisted of Monday.  We finished up some things from the week before, ie. science and geography.  K did a math lesson and a page from Explode the Code 1.  Tuesday became a crazy, crazy day and school did not happen.  On Wednesday we left to go out of town for a few days, so that was week 5.  Week 6 we will be back on track!

Yep, life happens and plans get tossed. Sounds like you took it in stride though. :-)

  3. Best laid plans, huh? Completely understand! Good plan to drop OPGTR and go with the readers for awhile... we use Phonics Pathways, but I have to make sure to do more "books" than instruction... it all works out in the end!
